Happy Easter

We had a really great Easter!!! There were a lot of us, my parents, Bjorn's parents, my Grandma "GG", my Uncle Mike, my Aunt Cindy and Don, Frank, Tina, Owen, Jon, Makala, Runner and Pace. Owen and Runner were so cute they really were into hunting the eggs and Gavin just liked watching them. The Easter bunny brought Gavin some cute things, but couldn't leave him in his nest because it was raining in the morning (some German folks may know about Easter nests). Here are some pictures. We are so glad that the day turned out so beautiful, and really glad that 10 day old Pace could make it. The picture of the 4 boys on the couch was too cute. Gavin is getting better

Well, some of you may know and some of you may not, but Gavin had Mastoiditis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastoiditis) so last week he spent 4 days in the hospital. Needless to say it was a LONG 4 days. This week he is doing much better, and he has a follow up with his ENT tomorrow (Dr.Moe is great!). Although on Friday he was running a temp so my mom took him to the Dr. and he has Croup (which causes Laryngitis in adults-- which I now have), but they caught it early so it shouldn't be a big deal. We are just all recovering and trying to catch up on everything else. We are looking forward to seeing the Easter bunny this weekend so I will be sure to put up pictures, sorry so long between posts again.

Shiner, Texas

Bjorn and I had our first weekend away from Gavin. We both took a half day off on Friday and headed out of town. (Before we left I made another donation of over 2,000 ounces/31 gallons of milk). We headed from New Braunfels to Shiner and in route we stopped at one of my favorite places- Buc-ees! We arrived in Shiner about 4:30 and checked into our bed and breakfast. We stayed at the Old Kasper House, which I highly recommend. Their website is www.oldkasperhouse.com. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which had a little sitting area/kitchen and a bedroom with a giant whirlpool tub. After we got checked in we opened a bottle of wine and had some cheese and crackers on the porch. We just relaxed for a while before going to dinner. There was a new restaurant open in town called Shiner and they didn’t have their liquor license yet, so they sent us across the street to the antique shop/bar to get a bottle of wine. We both had the chicken fried steak and it was really good! The building was really pretty and had beautiful tin ceilings and a really pretty bar. We then called it a night and went to bed early.

On Saturday morning we woke up and had breakfast and then walked around town. This town has a population of 2070, so if you are looking to go somewhere to relax and do nothing then this is place. After our walk around town we headed back to the B&B to watch some old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. After that we walked to the brewery. Only their store is open on the weekends, and they were cleaning their lines so they didn’t even have any samples! Since we had prepared ourselves for a cold beverage we went back to the antique store/bar and had a few beers and the owner told us they had a drive-in movie!! So, we drove out there to find out what was showing and at what time and decided to go. We went back and got ready and picked up burgers at Friday’s fried chicken- this was interesting because you place your order in the drive through, they tell you how long and then you come back to pick it up! The movie was actually a double feature of Taken and Grand Turnio. We only stayed for Taken, it was going to be too late if we stayed up to watch both. They had an intermission during the movie and it was so funny because they also had a drawing for prizes from the snack shack! They gave away a snocone, frito pie, nachos and hamburger- it made it funny because the announcer had a really strong accent. Then we went back to go to bed before the time change.

In the morning we got up and had breakfast (again I really loved the B&B and the owners were super nice) and got ready to head back to New Braunfels to see Gavin. I was really missing him! We stopped at Buc-ees again on the way back and got to NB about noon.

It really was a nice weekend of relaxing and not doing much. The best part: our cell phones didn’t even work there.

Swing

Bjorn and I went on our first trip away from Gavin this weekend. When we got home we walked to a small park and Gavin went on the swing for the first time. I'll write more about our weekend later. Have a good week.

Carnival

We went to the stock show and rodeo the weekend before last and Gavin rode his first carnival ride. His favorite part of our trip was seeing Elise the Borden cow. She was really close so he got a good look at her. Last weekend I went with my dad to the rodeo finals, it was really nice- we had Valero suite tickets.

Gavin has been doing good at daycare and last week did feet painting. I really don't know how they do all the things they do. I got to go feed him at lunch today and then I rocked him to sleep and he slept in my arms for 45 minutes. It was the best part of my day!!

We have a helmet appoitment tomorrow, so it may come off soon, I can't wait. His head really looks great and I will be glad when he doesn't have to wear it anymore, but he is going to be in for a big adjustment. He falls over all the time and hits his head on things, but it doesn't hurt, so when the helmet comes off here come the tears.

I also want to congratulate 2 of our closest friends on the birth of their baby girl. She is absoutley beautiful, and mom looks great too. And, as not to leave the dad out I hear he is helping so much. I know how great it is to have a helpful dad, they make being a mom easier.

What's going on

Well, it's been a month since I have posted and so much has happened since the last post. Gavin was baptised, started daycare, had his first Valentine's Day and waves.

Gavin was baptised at the First Protestant Church in New Braunfels on January 25th. My best friend since the 3rd grade, Kimberly, and Bjorn's friend from Vet school, Derrick, are his god parents. He was so good during the whole service and looked so cute in his little white outfit.

Gavin started daycare on Feb 2nd. He is going to a brand new daycare on the Valero campus. It is run by Bright Horizons and it is AMAZING. I really like his teachers, Ms. Petera, Ms. Rose, Ms. Patty and Ms. LaLa. They are all so sweet. I love having him so close to me at work, I love being able to go see him at lunch, it is now the best benefit Valero offers. His favorite thing is going on buggie rides, he is so cute. The only issue we are having is he isn't napping too well, he is way too interested in everything else that is going on.

Happy Valentine's Day! We spent a quite day at home this Valentine's day and I made Bjorn one of his favorite things: Swiss Meat Ring. I got the only thing I wanted: chocolate covered strawberries yummy. Mannie and Rufus love strawberries, which is the weirdest thing. I love both of my valentines aren't they cute!

I have one bit of sad news. Last night Bjorn had to put Rosa, Mannie's mom to sleep. She had gone into liver faliulre and wasn't doing well. I know my mom will miss her. Its so hard to lose a pet that has been in our lives for 14 years.

Sunday Afternoon

Bjorn is up at the clinic, he was meeting a client, so I am at home haning with Gavin. He is so close to crawling, I really expect him to start every day. We are just playing. He should want to eat his next bottle soon. I should be getting the house ready for his baptism next weekend, but toys are much more fun than housework. Bjorn got a call in the middle of the night, so we both seem to be running a little slow today. We are really looking forward to the baptism next weekend. Derrick is coming in on Friday to stay with us and Kimberly should be coming in later this week. Gavin looks so sweet in his outfit that his GG bought him (this is what we started calling my Dad's mom- it stands for Great Grandma). We are planning on going to meet his other GG in Minnesota early this fall. Boy are we glad we aren't there right now. It is sooo cold. And the weather has been really nice here the last few day.

Well, I guess I better get to some of the things on my list I hope everyone has a great week.

My cowboy loves his vegetables

My little man loves his vegetables! He is such a good eater and likes all of his vegies,we haven't gone to fruits. We wanted to make sure he really got use to the vegetables before we started the sweeter stuff. He has done so good and has liked everything so far. We haven't done much exciting since the holidays, just doing things around the house and playing with Gavin. We have been having a fire when it gets cooler and GAvin is memorized. I am afraid he is going to be a pyromanic. But, since Bjorn and I both love fire I guess it is to be expected. I am going to have to lock up the matches when he gets older! I can't beleive how quickly he is growing. He has been sitting up by himself for a couple of weeks. He wants to crawl so bad, but isn't there yet! Right now he also loves taking a bath he really loves to make a splash.

The picture below is a picture of Gavin on New Year's Day with his dog. Isn't he cute. He got a great report when he went for his helmet check up. He may not even have to wear it the full 3 months, we will see. Yesterday was 5 weeks and it has gone really fast.

So, at 7 months Gavin took his first ride today. Bjorn was over at my parents checking on my dad's horse and Gavin wanted to go for a ride. It sounds like he really liked it and got really excited. I hope I don't have a future team roper on my hands. Although, I don't know many cowboys who ride in their PJ's so I might be safe!!

Also for those of who don't know I have been able to donate some of my milk to the Mother's milk bank in Austin. They processed my first donation recently and I donated about 11.5 gallons of milk! The milk is distributed to premature and sick infants who can't be on formula. This is really a great orginization who does amazing things. I made a second donation after Christmas. I will let y'all know how much it is.

Well, I better get off to bed since I've been so busy at work the last week.

Happy New Year!

Gosh fast the last 6 1/2 months have gone! We had an amazing 2008 and are looking forward to a great 2009.

Gavin had a fun Christmas. The wrapping paper was his favorite part. Santa brought him way too many toys. His current favorite is his piano because he can bang on it and make a lot of noise. We had Christmas morning here at our house and then went to my Grandma's for lunch and then finished the day off at Omie's. We were off the rest of the week I am not sure what we did, but we just relaxed and spent some time around the house. Saturday we never left our house-- actually we never got out of our PJ's. Here are a couple of pictures- including a 4 generation picture- Gavin, me, my dad and my grandma.

For those of you who don't know Gavin is wearing a helmet to round out his head. With sleeping on his back (to reduce the chance of SIDS) the back of his head was a little flat.

Last night we had a pretty quite New Year's Eve. We went to my parents and her friends Billy and Brunner made some spicy shrimp-- which Bjorn loved. I picked up some BBQ since I am not a friend of any food from the sea! Then we spent most of the morning sleeping. We got up to feed Gavin, play for a few minutes and then back to bed. It ws a really relaxing day- a great way to bring in 2009.
